Active Sailing Trip from Rotterdam to Varberg
Around 11:30, our watch—the red watch—was nudged awake, and within half an hour we were expected on the outer deck. It was our turn for the “dog watch,” and it promised to be an adventurous shift.
In June 2022, I boarded the sailing ship Eendracht, and we set off from the port of Rotterdam. We sailed across the North Sea, past Denmark and Norway, until we reached our final destination: Varberg, Sweden.
A True Adventure
During the first two days of sailing, we were lucky with the sun shining every day, though unfortunately the wind was lacking. In search of wind, the engine was started as we headed north—where sufficient wind was expected to ensure we arrived in Varberg on time.
Less than 24 hours later, we encountered Force 9 winds and waves reaching 5 to 6 meters high. From sun to rain, from calm to strong winds, we experienced it all on our active sailing journey to Varberg.
