An 8-Day Sailing Holiday along the Coast of Galicia – A Coruña to Vigo
Step aboard the Eendracht for a unique combination of sailing and walking along the spectacular coastline of Galicia. During this eight-day sailing holiday, we voyage south from A Coruña to Vigo, combining relaxed days under sail with scenic coastal walks through one of Spain’s most captivating regions.
By day, we sail to our next destination, following Galicia’s rugged Atlantic coastline. Ashore, we lace up our walking boots to explore picturesque fishing villages, rolling green hills, ancient pilgrimage routes and dramatic coastal landscapes. Unlike our Active Sailing Voyages, this holiday is all about enjoying the journey at a relaxed pace. We plan our itinerary so that we spend most nights in a harbour or sheltered anchorage, allowing everyone to enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep without overnight watchkeeping.
Prepare for a week filled with fresh sea air, beautiful walks, Spanish hospitality and unforgettable coastal scenery. This voyage takes place during a particularly special week in Galicia. On 18 July, the final day of The Tall Ships Races in A Coruña, we join the spectacular Sail Out together with an impressive fleet of tall ships. Our journey concludes on 25 July, St James’ Day (Santiago Apóstol), when Galicia celebrates its patron saint with festivals, music, processions and centuries-old traditions. As we sail the Galician coast and walk sections of the famous Camino de Santiago, you’ll experience the unique atmosphere of a region that has welcomed pilgrims from around the world for centuries.
What can you expect?
Sailing along the Costa da Morte and Rias Baixas
Galicia is widely regarded as one of Europe’s finest sailing destinations. We sail past rugged headlands, sheltered estuaries, dramatic cliffs and the famous Rías Baixas, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Galician coastline. Along the way, we regularly call at welcoming harbours where you’ll have time to experience local life and cuisine.
Walking the Camino de Santiago
This voyage is about far more than sailing alone. Throughout the week, we walk several sections of the famous Camino de Santiago Coastal Route, following paths that wind through forests, along dramatic cliffs, across sandy beaches and into historic villages.
The walks are suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. Distances generally range between 5 and 10 kilometres, with relatively little elevation. We expect to enjoy around three guided walks during the week, interspersed with relaxing days under sail.
Discover authentic Galicia
Galicia is a region rich in history and character. We visit charming coastal towns such as Muros, Vilagarcía de Arousa, Baiona, Vigo, and other picturesque harbours where lively squares, historic streets and the region’s renowned seafood create an authentic Spanish atmosphere.
Take an active role—or simply relax
Guests are welcome to take an active part in sailing the ship by helping to hoist the sails, taking the helm or assisting with navigation. No previous sailing experience is required; our professional crew will gladly guide you every step of the way.
Prefer to relax? Find a comfortable place on deck, breathe in the Atlantic air and watch the beautiful Galician coastline slowly unfold before you.
The perfect balance between sailing and walking As we sail mainly during daylight hours and spend most nights in sheltered harbours or at anchor, this voyage follows a much more relaxed rhythm than our Active Sailing Voyages. There is no overnight watchkeeping, leaving plenty of time to unwind and wake refreshed for the next day’s walk.
Possible itinerary
Our exact route depends on the wind, weather and local sailing conditions, but may include:
A Coruña – Camariñas or Muxía – Muros – Ribeira – Vilagarcía de Arousa – Combarro – Baiona – Vigo.
Along the way, we combine short sailing passages with walks along sections of the Camino de Santiago and other spectacular coastal trails, including the Sendero de Pedras Negras, the Variante Espiritual del Camino, and other scenic walking routes that showcase the beauty of Galicia. As with every sailing voyage, the final itinerary is determined by the wind, weather and sea conditions, making each journey unique.
