Do you dream of feeling the wind in the sails and enjoying adventures together? Then serving as a quartermaster on the Netherlands’ largest topsail schooner might be the role for you!
You will be trained primarily on the job, during sailing, by our experienced boatsmen and senior quartermasters. In addition, you will need to complete several external courses, such as Basic Safety Training, Crisis and Crowd Management, and Designated Security Duties. During your training, you will have the opportunity to complete these courses in consultation with our shore-based organisation.
What will you be doing?
As a quartermaster, you possess certain key qualities, such as assertiveness, customer focus, and teamwork. Many passengers sailing on the Eendracht are inexperienced, so safety is always a top priority. The quartermaster teaches newcomers the basic procedures, ensures tasks are carried out correctly, and is responsible for overseeing this.
What we are looking for
- Socially skilled, able to convey instructions enthusiastically to volunteers and guests
- Eager to learn
- Aged between 18 and 60
- Affinity with our mission and sailing
- Available for at least 10 days per year
