Magnificent life on Sailing Vessel Eendracht

Magnificent life on Sailing Vessel Eendracht

It’s been two weeks after we have stepped on board of the eendracht. Two weeks of looking at infinite horizon of mighty ocean, working with sails, winches, lines under different conditions and living and communicating with the same people.
First time on board might be hard for some, but you get used to it very fast. Life here is always busy; work never lets anyone to be bored to death. Keeping your watch busy is not only our own duty, but also a chance to study and acquire new knowledge.
Watch leader is always nearby to show, to help, to introduce us, cadets, to something on board. Is it some kind of knot? Or maybe it is unknown tool on the outer bridge? Plenty of stuff to get familiar with and even more stuff to practice on. Mr. Peter, watch leader of White Watch, is one of the kindest persons we ever met and even better teacher to explain and show how work is should be done on sailing vessels.
Moreover, watch officers are very willing to help us as well. Mr. Arnold, Mr. Hein and Mr. Paul are always ready to share their experience with us and transfer some of their knowledge to cadets. It is wonderful to hear different stories of theirs about working experience on different kind of ships that they ever step in to.
Overall, whole crew creates such amazing atmosphere among them and us to keep our minds away from homesickness or any other things that may create a discomfort of living on board. Ship becomes a home, and crew becomes a family.
